‘’Aqra Miegħi/Read with Me’’ sessions at FES Childcare Centres

The Foundation for Educational Services is collaborating with the National Literacy Agency to offer the ‘Aqra Miegħi/Read with Me’ service in several of its Childcare Centres.

The Aqra Miegħi/Read with Me is an early literacy programme intended for children of 0 to 3 years and their parents or caregivers. This bilingual programme is run by the National Literacy Agency in collaboration with the Centre for Literacy of the University of Malta, Bank of Valletta and Malta Libraries.

The objectives of the programme are to promote a love of books through fun and playful activities, also through the involvement of parents or caregivers. One hour sessions are held at no charge once a week and each session features the sharing of storybooks, the singing of nursery rhymes and other fun activities for this age group. The primary objective of the programme is to develop the child’s imagination through fun and stimulating activities. The development of oracy skills and concepts about print are encouraged. Parents or caregivers are made aware of the benefits of sharing books with their children. They are encouraged to share books with their children on a daily basis.

hese sessions are being carried out at the It-Tbissima Childcare Centre at Qormi, at Il-Pespus Childcare Centre at Marsa, Ix-Xemx Childcare Centre at Qawra, Il-Bejta Childcare Centre at Bormla, Pizzi Pizzi Kanna Centre at Naxxar, and at Il-Merill Childcare Centre at Pembroke.
